CLAREMORE, Okla. –
Donald Moore broke the single-game assist record and the Rogers State men's basketball team set a school record for assists in a 116-59 blowout of Dallas Christian Wednesday night at the Claremore Expo Center.
In the home opener for the Hillcats, the team matched a school record with 116 points set in the first season of RSU basketball in a 116-62 win over Bethany Nov. 10, 2007. Moore's 11 assists led the team to a program-best 31 assists as a team on 40 made field goals and shot a record 71 percent from the floor (40-of-56).
Jordan Huffman highlighted a quick 7-0 run for RSU with a two-handed slam on the fastbreak to open the game. The Hillcats continued to add to the lead moving in front 18-2 after Moore pushed the ball up the court on a steal for an easy layup. RSU controlled play for another big run scoring 12 of the next 15 points stretching the advantage to 36-13 with 7:43 to play in the opening half behind the third three pointer of the frame by
J.C. Hartzler.
RSU closed the half leading 53-27 out-scoring the Crusaders by a 22-6 margin in the paint and the trend remained through the second half as DCC could not match the Hillcats size inside or the outside shooting abilities of the home side.
The Hillcats pulled away in the second stanza hitting 77 percent of shots in the final 20 minutes and led by as many as 58 points before playing to a final score of 116-59.
All 10 players dressed for the Hillcats reached the scoresheet and five players hit double figures, led by 19 points from Hartzler.
Matt Lea came off the bench and provided a spark with four dunks on his way to a career-high 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting and four blocks, while Moore finished with a 16-point, 11-assist double-double for the first of his career.
Travis Hester added 15 points knocking down five triples and
Jeylyn Sharpe added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
