GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS – The Rogers State baseball team came away with the series victory over Arlington Baptist with an 8-4 win in the rubber game on Saturday at QuikTrip Park.
Blake Gipson and
Caleb Kohlmeyer led the Hillcat offense with three hits apiece while
Matthew Shepard (2-0) earned the win on the mound for the Hillcats, allowing one run on nine hits.
The Hillcats took an early advantage as they dented the scoreboard in the first frame.
Caleb Kohlmeyer hit a one-out single to jump start the offense and
Cesar Rodriguez followed with a RBI double down the line to put RSU on the board.
Trae BoBo hit a two-out double off the wall to drive in Rodriguez and Gipson completed the scoring in the inning with a RBI single to right field to make it a 3-0 game.
In the third, Kohlmeyer led off the inning with a triple ripped to the right-center field gap and scored on a sacrifice fly by BoBo to push the advantage to 4-0. RSU added to the lead in the fifth with a trio of runs off of four hits.
The Patriots cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth with one run on a RBI single up the middle by Tyler Brown. ABC kept things interesting in the seventh with a trio of runs to chip away at the deficit, trailing 8-4.
Zack Tyson delivered 1.1 scoreless innings and
Mason Marquette secured the win in the ninth, allowing just one hit.
