Hillcats Top No. 20 St. Edward’s, 7-6

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State baseball team staged a come-from-behind, 7-6, victory over No. 20 St. Edward's on Friday afternoon at the Diamond Sports Complex.  
 
The Hilltoppers took an early advantage in the top of the second with a one-out, RBI double belted into left-center field by Jonathan Davis.
 
RSU answered in the bottom of the second frame. Travis Peet got the offense started in the inning with a bloop single hit to shallow right field. Chase Knott followed with a two-run home run ripped over the left field fence to give the Hillcats a one-run advantage.
 
SEU battled back into the lead in the top of the third with a trio of runs with the help of a RSU error. In the fifth, the Hilltoppers made it a 6-2 game with a pair of runs on Davis' RBI single to left-center field.
 
The Hillcats cut the deficit in the bottom of the sixth. Cesar Rodriguez led off the inning with a double down the left field line and scored on a one-out double hit in the left-center gap by Trae BoBo. With two outs, Peet kept the inning alive with a RBI single up the middle to bring BoBo home cutting the Hilltopper advantage, 6-4.  
 
In the seventh, Caleb Kohlmeyer hit a sacrifice fly to right field driving in pinch runner Austin Culwell. The Hillcats took the lead in the eighth, with a two-out double ripped to right-center by Knott.
 
T.J. Law came in to close the top of ninth, sealing the victory and earning his second save of the season. Mason Marquette (3-3) earned the win on the mound for RSU, allowing six runs, three earned, on nine hits in eight innings pitched.
 
Reliever Cam Hatch (3-3) suffered the loss, tossing one inning allowing two runs on three hit.
 
In his first career start, Peet went 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Rodriguez went 3-4 while BoBo and Knott tallied two hits apiece.
 
Rogers State (9-12, 2-5 HC) will return to action on Saturday as the Hillcats complete the three-game series against the Hilltoppers with a doubleheader slated to start at noon. Fans can follow the game live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live
