KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced its annual Scholar All-Region teams where Rogers State men's and women's soccer was represented by Mitchell Sowerby and Blair Thomas.
 
Sowerby was selected to the Men's Soccer College Division Scholar All-South Region Second Team after starting all 17 matches for the Hillcats in 2014. The Willington, England native landed on the All-Heartland Conference Second Team for his efforts along the back line and was named to the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Men's All-South Central Region Third Team. Sowerby scored his lone goal of the year at St. Mary's while tallying two assists for four points. The junior carries a 3.34 grade point average as a Business Marketing major.
 
Thomas earned a spot on the Women's Soccer College Division Scholar All-South Region Honorable Mention Team following her senior season where she led RSU in scoring. A native of Grove, Oklahoma, she had a team-best eight goals and five assists for 21 points while starting all 17 matches in the navy and red. Thomas was the lone Hillcat honoree on the All-Heartland Conference squad landing on the third team and has a 3.70 GPA majoring in Medical/Molecular Biology.
 
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; and be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution.
 
Those meeting the above criteria will be considered by the committee for one of the Scholar All-America teams. The committee reviews both the academic and athletic accomplishments of the nominees. The NSCAA Scholar Athletes of the Year for men and women are selected by the national selection committee from all levels of the Scholar All-America teams.
