Final Results
AMARILLO, Texas – The Rogers State women's golf team shot the fourth-best second round score to move up to sixth place at the West Texas A&M Invitational on Tuesday at Tascosa Country Club. The Hillcat team shot a score of 305 today for a total 36-hole score of 637.
A trio of Hillcats led the day two charge as
Kina Boone,
Sydney Murray and
Mica Eastin all finished with rounds of 4-over-par 76. Boone, a senior from Choctaw, Oklahoma, finished with two birdies in her final round and shot a 1-over-par 37 on the front nine. Paired with her first round score of 9-over-par 81, Boone finished in 18th place at 13-over-par 157.
Murray, who was playing in her first collegiate tournament, started on No. 10 today and went 4-over-par on the back nine. She finished hot on the front nine as she was even-par with one birdie for the 4-over-par 76 score. With her first round 10-over-par 82, the freshman from Wichita, Kansas totaled a score of 14-over-par 158 for the tournament, placing 23rd.
Eastin started her final round with six straight pars, finishing at 1-over-par 37 in her first nine holes. She had 12 pars in her first 13 holes on competition today to finish at 4-over-par 76. The senior from Carrollton, Texas posted a 12-over-par 84 in the first round. For her 36-hole tournament, Eastin finished at 16-over-par 160 for 27th place.
Sophomore
Stirling Phillips made the largest day two improvement as she was 11 shots better from day one with a 5-over-par 77 in the final round. She ended strong with two birdies in her final three holes as she played the final 12 holes at 1-over-par. Combined with her first round score of 88, Phillips carded a score of 165.
Mariana Flores ended with a 12-over-par 84 in the final round. She had two birdies to tie the team lead for today. The freshman shot an 88 in the first round for a total score of 172 in the two rounds. She finished with a team-high four birdies in the 36-hole tournament.
With more favorable conditions today, the Hillcats improved by 30 shots in their team score. The navy and red shot a score of 335 in round one.
St. Mary's won the team title with a score of 611. Emily Coleman of Redlands CC won the individual title with a score of 3-over-par 147.
The Hillcats are back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the Dallas Baptist Classic at the Golf Club of Dallas in Dallas, Texas.
