RSU Climbs to Fifth in adidas® Heartland Commissioner's Cup

Full Standings Breakdown

WACO, Texas
– Behind a regular season league championship for the Rogers State men's basketball team, the Hillcats moved up to fifth in the adidas® Heartland Commissioner's Cup standings following the winter season.

A second-place men's basketball finish kept Dallas Baptist atop the standings, but there was plenty of movement behind the Patriots who are the only school to average above .800.

Lubbock Christian improved nearly .100 points moving into second place thanks to a conference championship in women's basketball and a three-way tie for second in men's basketball. The Chaparrals narrowed DBU's lead from over .100 to just under .070. UA Fort Smith and Rogers State each jumped four spots after strong basketball seasons. UAFS finished tied for second in both men's and women's basketball to climb to a .670 average. Rogers State's conference championship in men's basketball, grabbing all 11 points, moved the Hillcats from ninth to fifth.

Overall, eight schools stand with averages over .500 with St. Mary's not far behind at .479.

The commissioner's cup standings will be updated once more this year following the completion of the spring sports seasons. The winner of the inaugural commissioner's cup will be announced in June 2016.

About the adidas Commissioner's Cup
2015-16 is the first year the Heartland Conference will award the adidas® Commissioner's Cup recognizing the best overall athletic institution of the year. The member institution with the highest percentage of points earned over the academic year will win the Commissioner's Cup.

adidas® Commissioner's Cup points are awarded to institutions based on their finish within conference-sponsored sports. Based on the number of institutions participating, available points will vary from sport to sport.

To determine points awarded, regular season standings are used for baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis and volleyball. The results of conference championships are used to determine awarded points in men's and women's cross country and men's and women's golf.

When teams are tied in conference standings, points will be split based on number of institutions tied. For example, if Team A and Team B tie for first in a sport with 11 institutions, the points awarded for first and second place will be added and divided by two. If Team A, Team B and Team C tie for first in a sport with 11 participants the points for first, second and third are added and divided by three.

Standings will be updated three times per year following the completion of fall, winter and spring sports. The winner will be announced annually in June.
