RSU Women Fall 69-54 at Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Rogers State women's basketball's road woes continued with a 69-54 loss at Ouachita Baptist on Friday (Dec. 15) afternoon at Bill Vining Arena. With the loss, the Hillcats fell to 4-7 on the season and 0-5 on the road, while the Tigers won their fifth straight and moved to 6-3.

The host Tigers built a 15-point halftime lead, using 3-pointers to make two critical runs, and hung on to that margin in the second half en route to the win.

Lauren Schuldt put in the first four points of the game as the Cats held an early 4-0 advantage in the opening minutes of the contest.

Ouachita then went on a 17-4 run over the next six minutes and used the 3 ball, hitting three during the run, to go up 17-8 with 1:51 left in the first period. One more 3-pointer made it 20-11 after one period.

RSU cut the deficit to five with two free throws from Darian Jackson for a 22-17 score at the 7:45 mark of the second period, but the Tigers extended the margin out to 16 at 33-17 with a quick 11-0 run that included three triples. OBU led 37-22 at the half.

In the second half, the Cats could only get as close as an 11-point deficit after a Jackson 3-pointer with 8:22 left in the game, however, the Tigers hit 3s and free throws in the fourth period to close out the contest.

Schuldt scored a team-high 15 points in only 23 minutes as she fouled out and was limited due to foul trouble. She was efficient when on the floor, shooting 5-of-7. She totaled six rebounds and three blocks. Desiree Nelson came off the bench and hit four 3-pointers for 12 points in 20 minutes. Jackson pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and just missed a double-double with nine points.

The navy and red shot 31.5 percent (17-54) from the field and only hit 56 percent of their free throws, going 14-of-25 from the line.

OBU's Kori Bullard tallied a game-high 16 points, and Morgan Miller added 15 points. Shakyla Begnaud went for 10 points in 18 minutes off the bench.

The Tigers shot 38.6 percent (22-57) in the game, including 45.8 percent from 3. OBU hit 11 triples as they went 11-24 from deep.

The Hillcats stay in Arkadelphia and take on Henderson State on Saturday (Dec. 16) at 4 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center. Video streaming, live stats and audio will be available with radio coverage on 91.3 FM.
