Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hillcats Use Dominating Second Half to Earn 2-0 Season-Opening Win

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Rogers State men's soccer team tallied two goals in the final 30 minutes of a dominating second half to pick up a key 2-0 season-opening victory at Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday night at Gonzales Stadium.

Noah Robson scored the game-winning tally in the 63rd minute when his free kick from about 30 yards went inside the right post for a 1-0 advantage.

The navy and red weren't done as newcomer Chris Moore headed in a corner kick from Robson in the 74th minute to put the Cats in front 2-0.

It seemed like it was only a matter of time for the Hillcats as RSU held a sizable 16-4 advantage in shots, including 6-1 in shots on goal. The second half was controlled by RSU. The Cats registered 13 shots, including five on target, and held CSU-Pueblo to only one shot, which came in the 87th minute when the score was already 2-0.

The Hillcats put pressure on the Thunderwolves early in the second 45 minutes with three shots in the first six minutes. Kevin Kwarteng tallied two shots and CSU-Pueblo's goalkeeper, Erich Frey, was forced to make two saves early in the period. The attempts kept coming with the Robson goal the sixth shot in the first 18 minutes of the half. RSU continued to push forward and added the insurance goal.

Walker Farrar earned the shutout win in goal. The senior made one save in 90 minutes.

With the win, head coach Derek Larkin earned his 99th victory on the sideline for the RSU men's soccer program, which he has coached since the program's inception in 2007.

The Hillcats end their two-game Colorado road trip on Sunday at Adams State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Alamosa, Colorado. Live stats and video will be available for the contest.
