ODESSA, Texas – The Rogers State men's soccer team scored two first half goals en route to a 3-0 victory at UT Permian Basin on Thursday (Oct. 11) at the UTPB Soccer Field.
The Hillcats (7-4-2, 5-2-2 Heartland Conference) wasted very little time before they got on the scoreboard as sophomore defender
Michael Turner headed in a cross by
Noah Robson for a 1-0 edge in the fourth minute of the game.
RSU upped the lead to 2-0 in the first half when
Erol Banuelos scored his first goal of the season. He knocked in a rebound in front in the 36th minute to double the navy and red advantage.
In the second half, the Cats added their third goal. Robson netted the tally in the 86th minute with his shot from the left side of the box to the right side of the goal.
Chris Sowder notched the assist on the Robson goal.
For the 90 minutes, RSU held a 16-13 advantage in shots, including a dominating 9-3 edge in the second half. Shots on goal were close with the Hillcats holding a slight 5-4 margin.
Robson finished with one goal and one assist. He fired a game-high five shots.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jazz Dhaliwal posted his third shutout in five starts this season. The Canadian registered four saves in 90 minutes to move to 3-0-2 in goal as a starter.
With the victory, RSU has put together a five-game unbeaten streak, going 3-0-2 in its last five contests.
