Hillcats Dominate in 4-0 Win over Hilltoppers

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State men's soccer team dominated in a 4-0 victory over St. Edward's on Thursday (Sept. 27) night at Soldier Field.
 
The Hillcats (5-4, 3-2 Heartland Conference) posted three first-half goals to cruise to the league victory over the Hilltoppers (3-4-1, 2-2-1).
 
Senior forward Kevin Kwarteng tallied his first goal of the season in the 10th minute of action when he scored from outside the box to put the navy and red up 1-0. The goal turned out to be the game-winning mark in the dominating victory.
 
Junior Chris Sowder registered his team-leading third goal of the season in the 29th minute to increase the RSU advantage to 2-0. Sowder knocked in a cross from Abe Young to double the score.
 
The Cats weren't done in the first half as Noah Robson posted his first goal of the season in the 37th minute. The senior scored from the middle of the box for the 3-0 margin.
 
In the second half, RSU added one more score when Anthony La Rosa netted his first collegiate goal in the 64th minute to extend the lead to 4-0.
 
Freshman Jazz Dhaliwal earned the shutout win in his first collegiate start in the navy and red. The freshman made two saves in 90 minutes to move to 1-0 in goal this season.
 
RSU held control throughout the complete 90 minutes of action. The Cats finished with a 15-3 edge in shots, including a 9-2 margin in shots on goal. The navy and red registered the only five corner kicks in the game.
 
Robson totaled a game-high four shots with two on goal. Sowder added three shots and two on target.
 
The Hillcats continue a four-game home stretch with Dallas Baptist University on Saturday (Sept. 29) at 2:30 p.m. at Soldier Field. Coverage will be available on the Hillcat Network.
