CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State Men's Soccer team lost in a tough 1-0 defeat Thursday night at Soldier Field, falling to No. 18 Fort Hays State 1-0.
In a back-and-forth battle, Rogers State and Fort Hays State traded runs of possession and offensive attack, but it was the visitors who capitalized on a chance in the 80
th minute. Santiago Agudelo played the ball out to an open Alonso Rodriguez who beat
Austin Wormell for the only goal of the game.
Rogers State would respond, however, coming within an inch of tying the game as
Jarrod Cooper hit the cross bar from the corner of the 6-yard box less than 90 seconds later.
Rogers State out shot the Tigers 11-9 in the game and the Hillcats also had 10 corner kicks to just two for the visitors.
Neither team would test the goalkeeper in the first half, as all eight of the Hillcats' shots and all three Tigers' shots were off target.
Noah Robson had one of the best efforts in the first half, sailing a shot from the corner of the penalty area over the cross bar.
Callum Hubble also had a long-range effort go just over the crossbar and
Jaxon Pitt was unable to connect on a cross from the top of the six-yard box in the first half.
In the second half, Robson and
Grant King both had efforts stopped by Kieran Brown.
The Hillcats will look to rebound on Saturday, as RSU welcomes in Newman for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Soldier Field.
