HAYS, Kan. – Rogers State picked up a key point in MIAA play Friday night, earning a 0-0 tie at Fort Hays State.
ReVella Fisher made five saves to lead the way for the Hillcats.
Both teams had multiple chances in the regulation.
Sydney Connelly had the first shot on target for either team, forcing Megan Kneefel into a save in the 15
th minute.
ReVella Fisher had to make two saves in the first half, first stopping Cailey Perkins in the 27
th minute before denying Chloe Montano in the 45
th minute. Both shots came from well outside the penalty area.
The Hillcats had the better opportunities in the second half.
Laurelle Theodore's effort from the corner of the penalty area in the 51
st minute was denied before
Maggie Brown's shot in the 63
rd minute from outside the box was stopped.
Fisher was forced into a late save to put the game in overtime, stopping Chloe Montano's shot from outside the penalty area in the 90
th minute.
Fort Hays would have an early shot in overtime, as Darby Hirsch forced a stop from Fisher in the lower left corner from inside the box. Theodore also had a shot on target in the first overtime, forcing Kneefel into a 97
th minute save.
Fisher would come up with another save in the second overtime, stopping Perkins' shot from outside the box for her fifth save of the game.
Rogers State will return to action on Sunday, traveling to Nebraska to face Nebraska-Kearney in another key MIAA conference game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
