TULSA, Okla. –
Christopher Miller scored 24 points on his return to Oral Roberts, as the Rogers State Men's Basketball team wrapped up their exhibition schedule with a 73-60 loss at NCAA Division I Oral Roberts Tuesday night at the Mabee Center.
Miller, who played three seasons for the Golden Eagles (2-3), was 10-for-12 from the field and also added four free throws to lead the Hillcats (3-0) in scoring. The Tulsa native added six rebounds in 24 minutes of action.
Miller and the Hillcats took the lead midway through the first half, going up by as much as four against the Golden Eagles before the hosts went on a 17-5 run to close out the half.
The Hillcats trailed by as much as 16 in the second half, but cut the deficit to seven points on three different occasions before seeing a single-digit deficit grow to 13 over the final 65 seconds.
Rogers State forced 20 turnovers from Oral Roberts, who snapped a two-game losing skid with the victory. Rogers State was able to exhibition the contest, using the one exemption allowed for lower division teams when playing Division I opposition.
The Hillcats would score 23 points off the turnovers from the Golden Eagles. Oral Roberts had just 11 points off of 13 turnovers for the Hillcats.
However, Rogers State was outrebounded 49-27 on the glass, including 17 offensive rebounds from Oral Roberts, which turned into 15 second-chance points. The Hillcats had just three second chance points in the game.
Marques Sumner joined Miller in double digits, finishing with 11 points in the game. Sumner also had five rebounds and three of the Hillcats 13 assists.
Tavian Davis was third in scoring for Rogers State, finishing with eight points, three assists, two rebounds and a steal.
Brewster Peacock led the Hillcats on the glass in the contest, finishing with eight rebounds.
Darraja Parnell and
Jett Sternberger each had a pair of steals and two assists.
Rogers State will return to action on Friday, beginning a stretch of four games in nine days. The Hillcats will open the stretch against Randall at home. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Claremore Expo Center.
