Women's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker On Road At Northeastern State

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Rogers State Women's Soccer team suffered a heartbreaking double overtime loss on the road Friday night at Northeastern State, falling 3-2 to the RiverHawks at DeLoche Field.

After playing over 160 scoreless minutes against the RiverHawks this season, including a 0-0 tie in double overtime earlier this year, the Hillcats took the lead with Hannah Mushisky's third goal of the season in the 54th minute.

Mushisky took a pass from Janell Hernandez and then beat Ainsley Cunningham from the edge of the six-yard box into the lower left corner for the lead.

However, it would be short lived, as 28 seconds later, Paige Lorenzo answered back for the hosts, who tied the game at 1-1.

Less than nine minutes later, the Hillcats would claw their way back in front with a free kick goal from Maggie Brown, her second of the season.  Brown would curl the free kick from about 25 yards out into the top right corner to put the Hillcats back in front.

Rogers State would hold onto the lead until the 87th minute when Meagan Chase fired a long-range effort into the top-right corner passed an outstretched ReVella Fisher.

In the first overtime period, Fisher was forced into one save, the only shot on target from either team. The second overtime saw both teams force a save.

Laurelle Theodore had an effort cleared off the line by a RiverHawks defender in the fifth minute of double overtime.

A minute later, Sarah Rector was denied by Fisher, who had 13 saves in the game, from close range.

However, the hosts would get one more shot on goal, as Mariah Nicolet was able to score 94 seconds remaining, beating Fisher from the corner of the six-yard box into the lower right corner.

With the loss, the Hillcats fall into a tie for the eighth spot in the MIAA Standings, the final seed in next week's MIAA Tournament.

Roger State will wrap up the season on Sunday, welcoming in Central Oklahoma for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Soldier Field.
