Strong Start to Second Half Secures GAC Tournament Berth for Hillcats

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State Men's Soccer team secured its GAC Tournament berth on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory over Ouachita Baptist at Soldier Field.
 
The Hillcats recorded three goals in the first eight minutes of the second half to power their way past the Tigers, tying the school record for wins in the regular season with 12.
 
Jordan Watson started the scoring in the 47th minute as he scored on a corner kick to put the Hillcats in front. Noah Robson sent the corner kick in, which was headed over the keeper by Luke Morgan into the path of Watson, who tucked away the goal with his right foot inside the six-yard box. It was Watson's sixth goal of the season.
 
Watson would be on the other end of the scoring play less than three minutes later. Watson worked past defenders and a charging keeper and put a shot from a tight angle off the inside of the far post. The ball bounced out to Robson, who finished past a Tigers defender to double the Rogers State lead.
 
Robson would double his tally less than four minutes later, scoring his fifth goal of the season to secure the victory for the Hillcats early in the second half. Jake Simpson had the ball at the top of the box, finding Luke Morgan on a diagonal run in the penalty area. Attracting six Ouachita defenders, Morgan then played the ball across the penalty area to Robson, who settled the ball and fired a left-footed strike into the top left corner for the goal.
 
Rogers State wouldn't face many threats from the visitors, securing their fourth consecutive shutout and eighth overall on the season with a combined effort from Dillon Dean and Austin Wormell in goal.
 
Dean had two saves over 76:14, while Wormell finished with a save in the final 13:46 of the game. Dean entered the game with a 331-minute scoreless streak against him and extended the run beyond 400 minutes in the game.
 
The Hillcats outshot Ouachita Baptist 24-11 in the game. Rogers State had seven shots on target, while the Tigers had just three shots on target.
 
Rogers State also had seven corner kicks in the game to just one from the visitors.
 
With Robson's assist on the opening goal, the senior moved to just one off of the school record for assists in a career. He now has 19 career assists.
 
Robson's five point performance also moved him into ninth on the career point list at RSU with 37.
 
The Hillcats will return to action on Saturday, looking guarantee a top-two seed and potentially claim the GAC Regular Season Championship with other favorable results on Thursday and Saturday in the league. Rogers State will travel to Searcy, Arkansas to face Harding in the regular season finale. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
