Sumner's 24 Points Leads Hillcats to Win Over Southwestern Christian

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State men's basketball team defeated the Southwestern Christian University Eagles Saturday 85-68.
 
At the half the Hillcats held a five-point lead, 37-32. The Hillcats were outshooting their opponent from the three-point line, shooting 36 percent compared to Southwestern Christian's 16 percent. However, the Eagles would stay in the game by shooting 52 percent from the field to 46 percent from the Hillcats.
 
At the beginning of the second half, the Eagles would go on an 8-0 run to take the lead from the Hillcats. The Hillcats would take back the lead eventually going on a 9-0 run in the middle of the second half to secure the game.
 
Senior Marques Sumner would lead the Hillcats with 24 points for the game. Sumner would also have five rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Hillcats.
 
The Hillcats would have three other players in double figures for points. Junior Brewster Peacock would finish with 14 points, senior Christopher Miller had 13, and senior Gabriel Ferreira would finish with 10.
 
Ferreira would tie Sumner for the team lead in rebounds with five in the game.
 
Senior Tavian Davis played in his 100th game for the Hillcats. Davis would finish the game with 6 points and four assists.
 
The Hillcats were 16-17 from the free-throw line today, which is the second-best performance for the team from the line for a game in school history.
 
The Hillcats dominated in the paint and from the bench today. The Hillcats outscored their opponent 44-24 in the paint and 25-3 from the bench. The Hillcats would also score 32 points from turnovers.
 
The Hillcats will return to action on Monday, December 16, facing off against Bacone College at the Claremore Expo Center. The game will be the final one of a four-game home stand. Tipoff is schedule for 12 p.m. There will be free admission for the general public for the game.
