Men's Basketball's Season Comes To Close In Heartland Semifinal

TULSA, Okla. - The Rogers State Men's Basketball team saw their season come to a close on Saturday afternoon against the St. Edwards's Hilltoppers in the Heartland Conference Semifinal.

The No. 1-seed Hilltoppers (27-3), ranked No. 4-nationally, move to the Heartland Conference Championship with their 87-62 defeat of the No. 5-seed Hillcats (20-12)

St. Edward's opened the game with a 12-0 run as part of a first half where the Hillcats shot just 37.5 percent to the Hilltoppers 48.4 percent. On the day, only one Hillcat scored in double-digits with Tate Turner scoring 16 on 6-13 shooting.

"No excuses," said RSU head coach Justin Barkley following the loss. "They were better. It just wasn't our day."

The Hilltoppers dominated in almost every facet of the game on Saturday. RSU was outscored 40-26 in the paint and were outrebounded 42-36. The Hillcats never led in the game.

The last game for the RSU seniors may not have gone as hoped, but Turner was still extremely with his decision to play on "the hill" following junior college.

"I learned a lot of things from both years coming here, Division II basketball is a lot more than I imagined before coming here," said Turner flanking his coach at the post-game press conference. "I learned things that are going to help me carry on past basketball and just really help me to be a better man."

All five departing seniors saw time in the game for RSU on Saturday and received a standing ovation as they left the game with four minutes to play.
