CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State Baseball returned to its winning ways on Tuesday as the Hillcats completed a season sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State with an 11-5 victory at the Diamond Sports Complex.
Zack Mann recorded his 100
th career hit at Rogers State in a 4-for-5 day to lead the way for the Hillcats, while
Brandon Bradshaw had three hits and four RBIs.
Bradshaw and Mann teamed up to put the Hillcats in the lead in the bottom of the first as Bradshaw singled through the right side to bring Mann around from second. Later in the inning,
Grant Farris would score from third on a failed pickoff attempt from the catcher.
Northwest Oklahoma State would answer back with four runs in the second inning as a Hillcat error allowed two unearned runs to cross the plate.
Mann would pick up an RBI single in the second, as
Brendan Griffith scored to cut the deficit to 4-3.
The Hillcats would then tie the game in the third with Bradshaw's only run, as
Griffin Keller singled to left center. Rogers State would add two more runs in the inning on a
Grant Ruthenberg double and a
Dylan Russell single that scored Keller and Ruthenberg.
In the fourth inning, Bradshaw started the scoring again for the Hillcats with a sacrifice fly to score Mann from third.
Nick Follett then doubled home Farris as the Hillcats went up 8-4.
Rogers State would add three more runs in the fifth, the first coming on a single from Mann through the right side to score Ruthenberg. Mann and
Christian Merriwether then scored on a double down the left field line by Bradshaw to put RSU ahead 11-4.
The Hillcats would keep the Rangers scoreless until the visitors would get one run back in the ninth.
Drew Van Winkle picked up his third win of the season with six innings of work, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks.
Blake Chiaramonte and
Sean Robinson each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
Rogers State will return to Heartland Conference play on Friday as the Hillcats host a doubleheader against St. Mary's at the Diamond Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
