LUBBOCK, Texas – Rogers State Softball secured a Heartland Conference Postseason Bid on Friday with a win in game two of a Heartland Conference doubleheader at No. 21 Lubbock Christian on Friday.
The Hillcats fell late in game one to Lubbock Christian 2-1, but picked up the clinching with in game two, defeating the Chaps 4-2.
Rogers State took the lead in the fifth inning with
Christian Merriwether's single up the middle to score
Dylan Russell from third.
However, in the bottom of the sixth inning, the hosts took the lead with a two-RBI single, going ahead 2-1.
The Hillcats were unable to get the tying run past second base in the seventh inning.
Corey Murphy was dealt the loss, allowing the two runs on seven hits and two walks with a strikeout.
In game two, the Hillcats took the lead in the second with a solo home run from
Griffin Keller. However, the lead was short lived as the Chaps tied the game in the bottom of the second.
Rogers State would go back in front with an infield single from
Nick Follett, as
Zack Mann scored from third.
The Hillcats would hold the lead until a home run in the eighth inning from the hosts tied the game.
However, Rogers State responded with a pair of runs in the ninth.
Brandon Bradshaw singled home
Grant Farris to put RSU ahead 3-2. Follett then doubled down the left-field line, scoring Bradshaw.
Brock Knoten came in to pitch a scoreless ninth for his league-leading 12
th save of the year.
Jackson Simonsgaard earned his seventh win of the season, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks. He finished with three strikeouts.
The Hillcats will take on Lubbock Christian in the rubber match of the series on Saturday with a first pitch set for 1 p.m.
