CANYON, Texas – The Rogers State Men's Track & Field wrapped up its qualifying attempts for the National Championship on Sunday with the West Texas A&M Last Chance Meet.
 
A small group of Hillcats made the trip, competing in four events, with three victories.
 
Alfred Thomas picked up a win in the 200-meter finals, setting a NCAA Provisional time with a 20.89, the fastest non-wind aided time in school history. Thomas won the event by .8 seconds, running the 14^th fastest reported time in the country in the event.
 
Thomas also helped the 4x100-meter relay team to a victory. Jacques Morgan, Quintin Powell and D'Jiron Lilley joined Thomas to run a 40.35, winning by .16 seconds. The time set a Rogers State program record and also met the NCAA Provisional standard with the fourth fastest time reported in the nation this year.
 
Powell also competed in the 400-meter finals, running to a second-place finish with a time of 48.44.
 
Baffour Kyem wrapped up the events for the Hillcats, winning the triple jump event. Kyem cleared an NCAA Provisional distance of 14.89 meters, .02 meters shy of his own school record set earlier this season.
 
Rogers State Track & Field will now await the NCAA Championship selection committee and the national championship selections, which will be announced later this week.
 
The 2019 Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will be held May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas.
