RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Rogers State sophomore
Austin Wormell has been named the Great American Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, announced the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Wormell helped the Hillcats to a 2-0-0 week, which included a 2-1 win over Oklahoma Christian followed up by a 2-0 win against Colorado State-Pueblo.
The Tulsa, Oklahoma native and Bishop Kelley product picked up his first shutout for the Hillcats and played all 180 minutes for RSU in the two games.
Wormell made seven saves overall and allowed just one goal off of a penalty kick in Thursday night's game against the Eagles. He had five saves in the cleansheet.
Wormell is part of a sweep of the GAC Player of the Week honors for Week 2, as
Jake Simpson and
Jaime Ponce took Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors as well.
Rogers State will return to action on Thursday with the team's conference opener on the road at Newman.
