CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State Women's Basketball team defeated Lincoln 99-75 on Saturday in MIAA play.
This win snaps the teams 14 game losing streak and is their first win in MIAA play in program history.
How it Happened: The Hillcats would start off in the first quarter hot, shooting 64 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range, while the Blue Tigers would shoot 31 percent from the field and did not make a three-pointer in the quarter. The Hillcats used the hot shooting to take a 26-14 lead into the second quarter.
The second would be the only quarter of the game where the Blue Tigers would out-shoot the Hillcats, but the Hillcats' dominance in the first quarter would give them a cushion as they would go into the half with a 46-35 lead.
The Hillcats would continue their dominance in the second half, shooting 63 percent or better in the final two quarters. The Hillcats would only miss four three-pointers in the second half. This would give the Hillcats as much as a 32-point advantage and help seal the win.
Rogers State would score 34 points in the third quarter.
Key Statistics: The Hillcats would have six players in double-figures while the Blue Tigers had just three.
The Hillcats would shoot 57 percent from the field and 56 percent from three-point range compared to the Blue Tigers 40 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range.
The Hillcats would outscore Lincoln in fast-break points 32-10.
Players of Note: Freshman
Bailey Kliewer tied a school record for field goal percentage, hitting all eight shots she attempted in the game. Kliewer also fell one block shy of tying the school record with six in the game. Kliewer would also lead the team in scoring and rebounds with 19 points and 8 rebounds.
Freshman
Alyche Brown would have 16 points to finish second on the team in scoring. Alyche was perfect from three-point range going 4-4. She would also have three assists and two steals.
Junior Lily Garner would be one of three Hillcats to finish with 14 points for the team. Garner would be 4-7 from three-point range. Garner would also tally four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Seniors
Azaria Floyd and
Alicia Brown would be the other two with 14 points. Alicia would also tally four rebounds and two assists.
Sophomore
Vanessa Gajdosova would be the final Hillcat to finish in double-figures with 13 points. Gajdosova would also have five rebounds and three assists.
Notes: Rogers State tied a school record for three pointers made with 13. The teams' .565 (13-23) three-point percentage is the second-best shooting performance from behind the arc in school history.
Rogers State's 99 points is the sixth best scoring game in school history.
Rogers State's .574 (35-61) field goal percentage is third best in school history.
The Lincoln head coach, Ayana McWilliams, would receive a double-technical foul early in the second quarter and was ejected.
