Rogers State Drops MIAA Contest at Nebraska-Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Rogers State women's basketball team fell to the University of Nebraska – Kearney 67-40 Friday night in MIAA play at the Health and Sports Center.
 
The Hillcats (1-5, 1-5 MIAA) struggled to keep pace with the undefeated Lopers (5-0, 5-0 MIAA) and fell to 0-3 in the all-time series with Nebraska – Kearney.
 
How It Happened: Nebraska – Kearney jumped out to an early lead with a 10-2 run in the first 3:43 of the game. The Hillcats would trade baskets with the hosts through the middle of the corner, but the Lopers went on an 8-0 run to end the first and begin the second quarter.
 
The Hillcats made one of their best runs of the game in the second quarter. After trailing 25-9, the Hillcats went on an 11-0 run that was capped off by back-to-back three pointers from Lilly Garner to bring the Hillcats to within two possessions, 25-20.
 
However, the Lopers answered back with a 10-0 run to close the half up 35-20. Rogers State was unable to get the game back to single digits.
 
Nebraska-Kearney continued to expand on it's lead, extending it to as much as 27 points with the final basket of the game.
 
Game Notes: Nebraska – Kearney had 13 steals in the game and converted it to 25 points off turnovers. The Hillcats had just nine points off of 12 turnovers from the Lopers.
 
The Lopers finished with 20 second-chance points in the game, while Rogers State had just five points off second-chance opportunities despite 10 offensive rebounds.
 
Rogers State was held to just 27 percent shooting while Nebraska – Kearney shot 40 percent from the floor.
 
Players of Note: Katrina Christian led the Hillcats in scoring, finishing with 12 points off of 5-11 shooting, including a pair of three pointers. Christian also had a steal, a rebound and two assists.
 
Shay Stone joined Christian as the only other Hillcat in double figures, finishing with a career high 10 points. Stone finished just shy of a double-double as she also pulled down a career high nine rebounds. Stone also had a block and a steal.
 
Up Next: Rogers State wraps up it's three-game road trip with a visit to the Gross Memorial Coliseum in Kansas to take on Fort Hays State. The Hillcats will tip off with the Tigers at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 20 in the final game of 2020 for Rogers State.
