KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rogers State Men's Basketball Assistant Coach
Tyler Wayman has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2020 Under Armour 30-Under-30 Team, announced the association Tuesday morning.
The prestigious 30-Under-30 Team honor recognizes 30 of the most outstanding men's college basketball coaches under the age of 30.
"I am very happy for Tyler and this honor," said RSU Head Men's basketball Coach
Justin Barkley. "Tyler has poured a lot of hard work in behind the scenes for this program."
Wayman is currently in his second stint with the Hillcat Men's basketball coaching staff, having just completed his second year as the top assistant under Barkley. Wayman helped guide the Hillcats to a second-place finish in RSU's inaugural season in the MIAA and a berth into the NCAA National Tournament.
Wayman returned to RSU prior to the 2018-19 season after previously serving as an assistant coach for the navy and red from 2014-16. In his first two seasons on College Hill, Wayman helped the Hillcats to two 20-win seasons, including a 2015-16 Heartland Conference championship with a 23-5 record in his second season.
"I have had the privilege of working with Coach Wayman for four seasons," added Barkley. "He is a big reason for our success we have had in recent years here at Rogers State. Tyler has a bright future in the college game and I appreciate everything he has done to help make my job easier each day."
During his time with the Hillcats, Wayman has helped coach two Heartland Conference Players of the Year in JC Hartzler (2015-16) and Frederico Santos (2014-15) along with 10 All-Conference selections between the Heartland Conference and the MIAA.
In between his time at Rogers State, Wayman spent two seasons as the top assistant coach at Eastern New Mexico. During his time as the first assistant at ENMU, Wayman coached four all-conference selections and helped the Greyhounds defeat six top 25 opponents, including wins over multiple nationally ranked opponents in the same year for the first time in more than 10 seasons. In his first season as an assistant at ENMU, the Greyhounds saw a seven-win improvement and more than doubled their previous season's win total.
Before coming to Rogers State the first time, Wayman served two seasons as an assistant coach for Wayland Baptist after serving four years on the staff at Arkansas as a manager.
The NABC, located in Kansas City, Mo., was founded in 1927 and organized coaches into a collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education.
