CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's soccer (8-3-1, 4-2 GAC/MIAA) upset No. 22 Southern Nazarene (8-4, 5-1 GAC/MIAA) in a 2-0 decision on Thursday to hand the Crimson Storm their first conference loss of the season.
D'Waylan McIntosh logged his second goal of the season in the win. Declan Viljoen continued his excellent play in goal as he registered his sixth shutout of the season, his second-straight clean sheet, with two saves.
The opening 45 minutes were a defensive struggle as SNU out shot the Hillcats 9-7 in the period. in the 28th minute, Viljoen made an incredible play to keep things scoreless as he leaped to deflect a Crimson Storm ball over the goal. With SNU getting three shots on goal compared to RSU's two, things stood at 0-0 heading into the intermission.
In the second half, the Hillcats kicked things up a notch as they cranked up the pressure and out shot SNU 6-3 in the period. The Crimson Storm put RSU on the board 1-0 in the 68th minute as they accidentally knocked the ball in for an own goal. Later, in the 80th minute, McIntosh fired in a shot on a pass from Josh Milla to seal the victory for the Hillcats at 2-0.
RSU will be back in action at Soldier Field on Saturday, Oct. 16 as they play host to Ouachita Baptist. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
