Hillcats Down Ouachita Baptist For Fifth-Straight Win

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's soccer (9-3-1, 5-2 GAC/MIAA) took down Ouachita Baptist (1-8-2, 1-5-1 GAC/MIAA) in a 2-0 decision on Saturday for their fifth-straight win. The victory also marked the third-straight 2-0 win for RSU.

Two Hillcats found the back of the net in win. Jordan Watson and Ruben Carrasco both connected on the two goals. Declan Viljoen was excellent as always in goal as he saved the Tigers only three shots on goal for his third-straight shutout, his seventh of the season.

RSU wasted no time applying the offensive pressure on OBU as Watson drove into the box and fired shot in for the first goal of the match just under six minutes in. Less than a minute later, Carrasco connected on a pass from Jaxon Pitt to put the Hillcats up 2-0. They kept the pressure up on both sides of ball as the Tigers were only able get off one shot on goal in the half and RSU was able to work a few more chances at the goal. At the intermission, the Hillcats still stood with a 2-0 advantage.

The final 45 minutes saw RSU get even more aggressive on offense as they out shot OBU 15-6 in the period. The Hillcats forced the Tiger keeper to make five saves, while Viljoen only need to save two shots. While RSU had a multitude of opportunities at scoring in the second half, they were unable to sink another goal taking the victory 2-0.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 21 as they travel to Hays, Kan. to face off against Fort Hays State. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
