CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (7-7-1, 2-6 MIAA) took down Fort Hays State (5-7-3, 2-6 MIAA) in a 2-1 decision on Friday.
Two Hillcats connected for goals in the win. Both Desiree Morgas and Vanessa Gonzalez found the back of the net on the night. Savannah Harvey played well in goal with two saves and only allowing the lone FHSU goal.
The Tigers got things started early as they got on the board in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead. However, RSU answered in the 30th minute as Desiree Morgas struck with the equalizer on a penalty kick to send the match into the intermission all square at 1-1.
In the final 45 minutes, it was the Hillcats who went on the immediate attack as Vanessa Gonzalez scored what would become the game winning goal in the 59th minute on a cross from Kori Watters. FHSU had multiple opportunities to tie things up as they out shot RSU 9-4 in the second half, but the RSU defense stood tall and hung on for the 2-1 victory.
The Hillcats will be back in action at Solider Field on Sunday, Oct. 24 as they play host to Nebraska-Kearney. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
