WICHITA, Kan. – No. 25 Rogers State men's soccer (10-3-2, 6-2-1 GAC/MIAA) took care of business against Newman (0-12-1, 0-7-1 GAC/MIAA) in a 2-1 victory on Saturday.
Two Hillcats scored in the win. Both Jordan Watson and Luke Morgan found the back of the net on the day. Reigning Goalkeeper of the Week, Declan Viljoen continued his solid play in goal with a save and only allowed the lone Jets goal.
RSU came out of the gate on fire as Watson put the Hillcats on the board early in the 6th minute on passes from Jaxson Pitt and Luke Morgan. However, Newman responded as they scored the equalizer in the 13th minute to tie things up at 1-1. RSU had two more attempts to retake the lead in the half with attacks that were saved by the Jets keeper. At the end of the first 45 minutes things still stood all square at 1-1.
The Hillcats started the second half the same way they began the first as Morgan connected on what would become the game winning goal in 46th minute to put RSU up 2-1. The Hillcat defense stepped up the pressure in the period as they only allowed Newman just one shot in the remainder of the match.
The Hillcats will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 28 as they stay on the road with a trip to Bethany, Okla. for match against Southern Nazarene. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
