RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Rogers State men's soccer's Luke Morgan and Jaime Ponce have been named GAC/MIAA Offensive Player of the Week and Defender of the Week, respectively.
A native of Nottinghamshire, England, Morgan was a critical part of the Hillcats 2-1 win over Newman on Saturday, playing a role in both goals. In the opening goal of the match, he assisted Jordan Watson in the seventh-minute goal. The sophomore would then go on to connect on the game winner, his first of the season, in the 47th minute to seal the win for RSU.
Ponce, a product of Enid, Okla., anchored a Hillcat defense that went 1-0-1 on the week and only allowed one goal. He played all 200 minutes against Fort Hays State and Newman. The defense only allowed eight total shots on goal in the two matches.
After starting league play 0-2, the Hillcats have rallied to win seven-straight and sit in first place with three matches remaining in the regular season.
No. 22 RSU will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 28 as they travel to Bethany, Okla. to face off against Southern Nazarene. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
