Hillcats Handle Cameron, 71-59

CLAREMORE, Okla.- Rogers State men's basketball closed out its non-conference schedule with a 71-59 victory over in-state opponent Cameron Wednesday night inside the Claremore Expo.

The teams traded buckets to open the game but the Hillcats used a 9-2 run to push the RSU lead to 19-12 with 10:25 remaining before half. The Aggies answered with a 11-2 spurt, capped by a Colt Savage jumper to take a 23-21 advantage with six minutes to play in the first half. The lead seesawed with the Hillcats taking a 35-34 lead into the locker room at the break.

In the second stanza, the Hillcats used a 12-5 advantage to push the lead to eight points with nine minutes to play. The crowd rose to their feet after Brewster Peacock knocked down his second three-pointer in less than a minute to give RSU a 63-50 advantage, the largest led of the game, with 4:42 to play.

Cameron would pull within six points off a Marques Warrior jumper with just over two minutes remaining. However, RSU's Devin Pullum responded with a jumper of his own followed by a three-pointer, his third of the game, with 1:11 left to stretch the Hillcat lead to 11 points.

Pullum led all-scorers with a season-high 26 points, five shy of his RSU career high, on 10-of-20 shooting from the field. Gerren Jackson totaled 10 points as RSU saw just two players reach double-figure scoring. The Hillcats shot 45.9 percent from the field and totaled four second-half, three-pointers.

Brock Schreiner led Cameron (2-5) with 16 points as one of three Aggies to finish with double-digit points. The Hillcat defense limited the Aggies to 16-percent shooting from behind the arc including 0-for-13 in the second half.

Rogers State (7-5) will open the New Year hosting Nebraska-Kearney inside the Claremore Expo on January 1, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. Listen to the action on RSU Radio 91.3FM or watch live on the MIAA Network via rsuhillcats.com/live.
