WEATHERFORD, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team opened up the spring season with a 3-1 win against Southwestern Oklahoma State University Wednesday afternoon at the SWOSU Soccer Field.

Three different Hillcats scored in the first road game of the year and season opener for RSU against the Bulldogs.

How it happened: Rogers State was quick to start the first half with the first shot on goal happening just 35 seconds into the game by
Maggie Brown. The Bulldogs controlled the ball for much of the next ten minutes, and led to the Bulldogs first shot on goal.

A foul committed by Bulldog Nicole Petrino in the nineteenth minute, turned into a free kick and another shot on goal from Brown. Less than a minute later,
Kori Watters connected with a shot from the edge of the penalty box too put the Hillcats up by one a little less that half way through the first half.

In the 31
st minute, it was Brown who doubled the Hillcats lead with a goal from a distance, scoring from outside the penalty box, finding the bottom left corner of the goal.

With less than four minutes left in the half, Brenna McGuirk took a shot directly in front of Hillcat Keeper
Cambree Towle that went to bottom right to find the back of the net.

The first half ended with the Hillcats up 2-1.Â

In the first half the Hillcats took nine shots verses just two from the Bulldogs. The Hillcats also had five corner kicks to just one from the Bulldogs.

Less than five minutes into the second half, Rogers State's
Vanessa Gonzalez wasted no time restoring the Hillcats two-goal lead, scoring from near the penalty spot.

Rogers State would close the second half by taking five more shots, but none would find the back of the net.

Notes from the Game: The Hillcats led in shots 15-4 and also had seven shots on goal to just two from the Bulldogs.

Rogers State also led the Bulldogs in corner kicks taking eight to the Bulldogs' two.

The Hillcats had one more foul than the Bulldogs, with the final tally ending 12-to-11.

Up Next: Rogers State will be back on the field on Saturday afternoon with another non-conference game, as the Hillcats take on Oklahoma Christian on March 13 on Solider Field, the first home game of the spring. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. with senior day festivities to follow the game.
