Rogers State Continues Hot Start With 4-2 Win Over Ouachita

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Rogers State men's soccer continued its winning start to the season as the No. 23 Hillcats defeated Ouachita Baptist 4-2 at Kluck Field.

Luke Morgan scored a goal and assisted another to lead the Hillcats (3-0-0, 3-0-0 GAC) to their first win over Ouachita Baptist (2-3-0, 0-3-0) in Arkadelphia since September of 2015.

Highlights
  • The Hillcats took the lead in the 18th minute, as Luke Morgan got a foot on a Callum Hubble free kick from the left wing and knocked in the opening goal from close range.
  • After a Hillcat corner kick was initially headed out toward the top of the box, Jaxon Pitt's first touch strike from near the penalty spot was partially blocked. The rebound came to Frederik Koza, who struck a left-footed shot into the corner of the net from just outside the six-yard box to double the Rogers State lead in the 34th minute.
  • On a quick counter attack early in the second half, Sebastian Hernandez's throw in from near midfield released Jordan Watson, who chased down the ball near the goal line. Watson then worked the ball into the penalty area and delivered a pass to the back post for Jaxon Pitt to tap in from inside the six-yard box as the Hillcats took a 3-0 lead in the 48th minute.
  • The hosts would get their first goal off of a free kick in the 50th minute. The Tiger free kick was misplayed in the box and the ball bounced behind the Hillcat defense to Ebon Jordan, who scored from close range.
  • The Tigers would cut the lead to one in the 63rd minute with a counter attack goal. David Stankovic took a pass from out wide and picked out the top left corner from distance, as he worked open a space from about 30 yards out to beat an outstretched Dillon Dean.
  • The Hillcats would restore a two-goal lead in the 68th minute, as Roger's State's pressure forced a turnover from Ouachita in their own half of the field. The ball was played wide to Luke Morgan, who made a run and delivered a cross in from the right wing and Grant King headed the ball from the back post across the goal into the right side.
