HAYS, Kan. – No. 19 Rogers State men's soccer (8-3-6, 6-1-4 GAC/MIAA) battled to a scoreless draw against Fort Hays State (8-4-6, 6-2-4 GAC/MIAA) on the road on Thursday.
Declan Viljoen was excellent in goal as he earned his fifth shutout of the season. The sophomore made three saves on 13 shots faced.
The first half was a defensive struggle for both teams as neither was able to get many offensive chances. FHSU outshot the Hillcats 7-4 in the period with three shots on goal compared to one. RSU's best scoring opportunity in the half came as Luke Morgan fired in a shot in the 12th minute that was saved.
In the final 45 minutes, the Hillcats cranked up the offensive intensity. RSU outshot the Tigers 12-6 in the period, with six shots on target compared to one. In the 85th minute, George Robinson had a shot saved off a corner kick and then had his rebounded shot also saved in RSU's best scoring opportunity in the second half.
The Hillcats will close out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 29 as they travel to Wichita, Kan. to face off against Newman. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
