Hillcats Advance To GAC/MIAA Tournament Championship With 2-1 Win Over Fort Hays State

BETHANY, Okla. – No. 2-seed Rogers State men's soccer (10-3-6, 7-1-4 GAC/MIAA) took down No. 3-seed Fort Hays State (8-5-6, 6-2-4 GAC/MIAA) in a 2-1 victory in the semifinal round on Thursday to advance to the GAC/MIAA Tournament Championship for the third time in four years.

Two Hillcats found their way onto the scoresheet in the win. Grant King scored his fourth goal of the season while George Robinson netted his fifth. Declan Viljoen was incredible in goal making two saves on nine shots faced.

RSU dominated the opening 45 minutes of the match. They outshot the Tigers 11-5 with seven shots on goal compared to three. In the 27th minute, Grant King made an incredible diving header off a deflected shot from George Robinson to break the scoreless tie and give the Hillcats a 1-0 lead.

The Hillcats continued to pour on the pressure in the second half. They outshot FHSU 15-4 with four shots on goal compared to just one. On one of the Tigers few offensive changes in the 55th minute, Tyler Lockhart found the back of the net for the equalizer to knot things at 1-1. However, just three minutes later in the 58th minute, Robinson answered back by firing the game winning shot off the underside of the crossbar that bounced into the net on the rebound to give the Hillcats the 2-1 victory.

RSU will face off against the winner of No. 1-seed Southern Nazarene and No. 4-seed Northeastern State in the tournament championship on Sunday, Nov. 6. Kickoff is set 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on the GAC Network.
