Hillcats Fall On The Road To Close Out 2022

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Rogers State women's basketball (3-9, 1-5 MIAA) fell 96-51 on the road to Missouri Western (11-4, 5-2 MIAA) on Saturday to close out 2022 on New Year's Eve.
 
Three Hillcats finished in double figures on the day. Kaya Goldsby led RSU with 14 points to go with four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Bailey Kliewer finished two rebounds shy of a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds as well as a steal. Chloe Martin added 10 points with a rebound, an assist and a steal. Trinity Jackson contributed a game-high 11 rebounds with five points.
 
The Hillcats stumbled out of the gate as the Griffons opened the game on a 12-0 run in the first four minutes. They couldn't find an answer for MWSU's offense as they trailed 25-10 going into the second quarter.
 
Things didn't get any better in the final 10 minutes of the half as the Griffons started the second quarter on a 10-0 run to go up 35-10. RSU was able to keep the deficit in check for the remainder of the period as they trailed 44-21 going into the locker room.
 
Missouri Western continued to roll in the second half as they began the third quarter on an 8-0 run to push out to a 52-21 advantage. They took their first 40-point lead at 79-38 to close out the period. In the fourth quarter MWSU outscored the Hillcats 17-13 to take the 96-51 win.
 
The Hillcats will be back in action on Monday, Jan. 2 as they open 2023 with a trip to Maryville, Mo. to face off against Northwest Missouri. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
