CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (10-16, 6-14 MIAA) fought hard, but came up short against Central Oklahoma (15-10, 11-8 MIAA) in the 86-71 loss on Wednesday.
In total, three Hillcats finished in double figures on the night. Jordan Lewis led the team with 20 points to go along with two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Katrina Christian posted 15 points with an assist and a steal. Kylee Day contributed 13 points with two rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.
After going down 7-0 to start the game, RSU rallied to cut the deficit to one point multiple times and took their first lead at 18-17. They close closed out the first quarter on a 7-0 run to go up 21-17.
The Hillcats carried that momentum into the final 10 minutes of the half as they took their largest lead of the game at 27-19 just under two minutes into the quarter. However, the Bronchos responded and ripped off a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead at 28-27. From there, things grew tight for the rest of the period with six lead changes and two ties with the score knotted at 38-38 to end the half.
The second half was all UCO as they outscored RSU 48-33 in the second. The Hillcats briefly retook the lead at the start of the second half 44-42, but the Bronchos went up to stay at 45-44. UCO took its largest lead of the game 75-60 with 5:51 left in the game and eventually took the 86-71 victory.
The Hillcats will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 19 as they face off against Newman inside the Claremore Expo Center. Tipoff is set 1:30 p.m.
