CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's basketball (15-10, 9-10 MIAA) rolled to a 61-53 victory over Newman (4-20, 1-18 MIAA) on Saturday.
Three Hillcats finished in double figures in the win. Jordan Coblin paced the team with 12 points and three assists in addition to three rebounds. Devin Pullum put up 11 points with two rebounds and two assists. Tylan Dean added 11 points with a team-high eight rebounds, three assists and one steal.
After a made three pointer from Coblin to go up 3-2 40 seconds into the game, the Hillcats never trailed again. RSU built out its lead with a 20-7 run to take a 23-7 lead with 8:15 left in the half. The Jets showed some life late in the period and were able to trim the deficit to 33-25 headed into halftime.
Newman continued to battle in the second half and actually outscored the Hillcats 29-28 in the period. However, RSU did just enough to keep Newman at bay, as the Jets never got closer than six points of the lead. The Hillcats eventually took the win 61-53.
RSU will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 23 as they travel to Tahlequah, Okla. to close out the regular season road schedule against Northeastern State. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
