CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's basketball (15-13, 9-13 MIAA) dropped the regular season finale 76-67 to Northeastern State (15-13, 10-12 MIAA) on Saturday.
In his final game in the Expo Center, Devin Pullum led all scorers with a season-high 28 points with four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Joey Saracco put up 13 points with five rebounds, two assists and a steal. Tylan Dean contributed eight points with a team-high eight rebounds and four steals as well as three assists.
After the RiverHawks hit back-to-back threes to open the game, the Hillcats responded with 9-2 run to take the lead 9-8. The remainder of the half was tight with seven lead changes and three ties. However, NSU closed out the half on a 9-1 run to carry a 37-27 lead into the locker rooms.
The Hillcats battled in the second half outscoring the RiverHawks 40-39, but were unable to break through. After going down 60-47 with just over five minutes left, RSU rallied with an 18-6 run to cut the deficit to 67-65 with 1:31 remaining. Unfortunately, that would be as close as they would get as NSU salted the game away with free throws to take the victory 76-67.
With the loss, Rogers State earned the No. 10-seed in the MIAA Tournament and will face off against No. 7-seed Missouri Western in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday, March 2 at 8:15 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo. inside the historic Municipal Auditorium.
