WEATHERFORD, Okla.. – No. 4 Rogers State softball (22-2) went back to work after a week off with a mid-week sweep against Southwestern Oklahoma State (5-16) on the road.
GAME ONE - RSU 11, SWOSU 0
The Hillcats wasted no time getting on the board as they took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Makayla Bowman drove in Chelsea Spain with a RBI single to left. Jaylan Gibson scored on a RBI groundout to second from Abbey Rogers. They tacked on another run in the second as Elexis Watson smashed a ball over the right field wall to go up 3-0.
RSU added three runs in the fifth inning to push out to 6-0. Tailee Reding and Nicole Price came in on a two RBI triple down the right field line from Gibson. Bowman later plated Gibson with a sacrifice fly to left.
The Hillcats sealed the 11-0 win in the sixth inning as they exploded for five final runs. Rebecca Bell got things started as she scored on stolen base attempt by Jackie Zaferes. Gibson drove in Reding with a RBI double to left center. Bowman capped off the inning with a three-run blast over the left centerfield wall, scoring Gibson and Spain.
Andrea Morales (13-1) earned the win going 5.0 innings with a strikeout and only allowing four hits. Brianna Cryer (2-9) took the loss.
GAME TWO - RSU 11, SWOSU 3
Once again, RSU dashed out to a 2-0 lead to start the second game. Chelsea Spain crossed home on a RBI single from Makayla Bowman. Abbey Rogers later brought in Bowman with a RBI double to right center.
The Hillcats extended their lead out to 5-0 in the top of the second with three more runs. Alondra Natera came in on a RBI groundout to the shortstop by Nicole Price. Jaylan Gibson plated both Spain and Tailee Reding with a two RBI single to right field.
The Bulldogs cut the lead to 5-2 with their first runs of the day in the bottom of the second. Both runs scored on a two RBI single to left.
RSU broke the game open in the third inning as they exploded for five runs to push back out to 10-2. Reding got things started with a two RBI double to right that brought in Rebecca Bell and Lana Gass. Price later returned the favor by driving in Reding with a RBI single to second base. Bowman capped of the inning with a RBI single to left the scored Gibson and Price.
The Hillcats tacked on a final run in the fourth inning to go up 11-2. Bridgett Morales came in on a RBI goundout to short by Reding.
SWOSU scored their last run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to 11-3 with a RBI single to right center.
M'Kayla Hillman (6-1) earned the win after going 3.0 innings with four strikeouts and not allowing an earned run. Alisa Friesen (3-8) took the loss.
RSU will be back in action on Friday, March 25 as they begin a four-game homestand and welcome Pittsburg State to the Diamond Sport Complex for a conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
