Hillcats Win Holiday Inn Express Classic

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Rogers State women's golf won the Holiday Inn Express Classic in the final round of the tournament on Tuesday.

After two rounds at the Par 72, 5,941-yard St. Joseph Country Club, the Hillcats claimed the team title after turning in a card of 627 (+51). This is RSU's third-straight tournament victory.

"It was a great tournament by the ladies this week," said head coach Whitney Hocutt. "The weather and wind were tough obstacles, but they overcame and conquered it. This is the third win in a row for us and that is a major feat for any program. We are constantly moving in the right direction. The best feeling as a coach is the fact that the ladies are still not satisfied. Each want to play even better. This will help with our upcoming events. We are looking forward to Newman's event next week which will round out our regular season. Thank you to Missouri Western St U, St. Joseph Country Club, Brett Easley, and all the volunteers for a great event."

Jessica Green led the Hillcats with a second place finish after shooting 151 (+7).

"Jess Green led us this week," Hocutt continued. "She's returning to St. Joseph after an impressive NCAA Regional outing last May, and holds the current ladies course record. To say she likes this course is definitely true. Kristin and Lydia both led us as well. They each had a great tournament. This is the best finish individually for Kristin. Marelda, Jaelynn, and Raquel also contributed well to our performance this week. Jess Osden had a good second round today on the course, and I look for her to improve even more."

Lydia Sitorus finished in a tie for third with a card of 156 (+12). Marelda Ayal finished in a tie for seventh with a 161 (+17). Jaelynn Unger finished in a tie for 12th with a 163 (+19). Raquel Flores rounded out the squad in a group of seven tied at 14th turning in a card of 164 (+20).

Playing as an individual, Kristin Gudmundsdottir tied Sitorus for third after shooting 156 (+12). Jessica Osden finished in 53rd with a 178 (+34).

The Hillcats will wrap up the regular season on Monday, April 4 as they travel to Wichita, Kan. to compete in the Newman Spring Invitational, hosted by Newman at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
