CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State baseball (17-16, 11-9) dropped the series finale 10-0 to Emporia State (12-21, 6-14 MIAA) on Sunday.
The game began as a pitcher's duel with neither starter giving up a run in the first three innings.
The Hornets took a 1-0 run lead in the fourth inning scoring the game's first run. The run came in on a RBI sacrifice bunt. They added two more runs in the fifth inning to push out to a 3-0 lead. An RBI single scored the first run with the other run scoring during a 5-4-3 double play.
In the seventh inning, ESU tacked on three more runs to expand their lead to 6-0. The first two runs came in on a two RBI bunt single with the other runs coming on a RBI groundout to the shortstop.
The Hornets sealed the 10-0 with four final runs in the eighth inning. Two runs scored on a two RBI single to left center. A RBI single to center plated another run with the final run coming on a RBI double down the left field line.
In total, scattered two hits from Jonathan Soto and Skyler Nelson, and were only issued three walks.
Noah Geekie (4-1) earned the win. Nathan Chase (1-3) took the loss.
The Hillcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 5 as they take on East Central in a mid-week, non-conference matchup at the Diamond Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
