DENVER – With a wild and thrilling 6-5 walk off win on Monday, Rogers State softball (57-10) are on the verge on making history in Game Two of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship Series against Cal State Dominguez Hills (45-23) on Tuesday.
The Hillcats put themselves one win away from the first National Championship in school history with an instant classic in the 6-5 comeback victory in game one of the series. After going down 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning, Both Bridgett Morales and Jaylan Gibson launched two-run home runs to cut the lead to 5-4 in the bottom half of the frame. Later that inning, Makayla Bowman tied the game at 5-5 with a RBI single that plated Nicole Price. On a 1-0 count in the bottom of the seventh, Callie Yellin unloaded on a pitch to walk the game off with a solo shot over the right center field wall. M'Kayla Hillman was clutch in the circle, earning her 16th win of the season with 3.1 innings out of the bullpen and limiting the Toros to just two hits while striking out two.
The Toros got offense from Kayle Hull, who hit the solo homer that put CSUDH up 1-0 in the third and plated two of the four runs in the fourth inning. Katelyn Sturm drove in the other two runs that gave the Toros their 5-0 lead. Alysa Olague threw three innings of relief while starter Ashley Wies threw 3.1. Each of them had two strikeouts, which for Olague moved her to one away from tying CSUDH pitching coach Stephanie Guerra's single season record of 232, set in 2013.
Game Two will start at 12 p.m. CT on Tuesday, May 31 at the Assembly Athletic Complex. Fans can watch the game live on NCAA.com and listen on KRSC 91.3 FM or RSURadio.com with Josh Haley on the call.
