CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (1-0) started the
Chris Jones Era off in style as they rolled to a 4-0 victory over William Jewell (0-1) in the season opener on Thursday.
Â
RSU saw four goals from four different Hillcats on the night.
Maggie Brown,
Hannah Schulze,
Iris Seamster and
Delana King all found their way onto the score sheet, with
Libby Doyle getting credit for an assist on Schulze's goal.
Tiffany Brittan was brilliant in her first career start in goal and logged her first career clean sheet with three saves.
Â
The Hillcats came out of the gate hot as they immediately put offensive pressure on the Cardinals, getting three shots off in the first 12 minutes. In the 15th minute,
Maggie Brown struck pay dirt as she scored the first goal of the season to put RSU on top 1-0. The Hillcats didn't let up as newcomer
Hannah Schulze blasted a shot in off a pass from
Libby Doyle in the 29th minute to increase the lead to 2-0 for her first career goal.
Iris Seamster worked to carve her way into multiple scoring opportunities throughout the half, only to be stifled by the Jewell defense. She finally broke through in the 32nd minute to send RSU into the half with a 3-0 advantage.
Â
The Hillcats came out of the locker room with the same offensive intensity to start the second half. Newcomer
Delana King got on the board with her first career goal in the 68th minute to put RSU up 4-0. From there, the Hillcats played strong defense for the remainder of the game to prevent any comeback from the Cardinals.
Â
From the opening kickoff until the final horn, RSU put together a stifling defensive perfomance that only allowed Jewell three total shots in the entire game.
Â
The Hillcats will return to action on Sunday, August 28 as they welcome Sioux Falls to Soldier Field. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.
