Hillcats Close Out Opening Week With Win Over Sioux Falls

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (2-0) closed out their opening homestand of the 2022 season with a 2-0 win over Sioux Falls (0-2) on Sunday at Soldier Field.

Two different Hillcats found the back of the net on the day. Both Maggie Brown and Delana King scored their second goals of the season in the win. Tiffany Brittan was perfect in goal for her second-straight shutout as she led a stingy RSU defense that only allowed the Cougars two off target shots in the game.

The Hillcats wasted no time heaping pressure on the USF defense as Maggie Brown blasted a shot for the game's first goal just five minutes into half. From there, the Hillcats didn't let up as they had nine total shots in the first half. In the 39th minute, Sophia Wickenden was awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box, but had her shot saved by the Cougars' keeper to send RSU into the half with a 1-0 lead.

RSU came out of the locker room for the second half with the same offensive intensity. Just one minute into the final period, Delana King fired a shot toward the goal that was knocked down by the keeper but rebounded quickly and shot again to put the Hillcats up 2-0 before the USF keeper could recover from the dive. The Hillcats kept peppering in shots with nine total attempts in the final 45 minutes with seven shots on goal.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 1 as they take their first road trip of the season to Dallas, Texas to face off against DBU. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
