DALLAS – Rogers State women's soccer (2-1) was 10 minutes away from a draw with No. 3 DBU (2-0) and came up short 2-1 on the road on Thursday.
Â
Hannah Schulze scored the lone goal for the Hillcats for her second of the season.
Cambree Towle was solid in goal with six saves with two goals allowed.
Â
The first half of the game was a defensive struggle for most of the opening 45 minutes. The Patriots outshot the Hillcats 10-2 in the period. However, it would be RSU that struck the first blow as Schulze found the back of the net in the 43rd minute to give the Hillcats a 1-0 lead going into the half.
Â
The defensive back and forth continued in the second half. In the 67th minute though, DBU scored the equalizer to draw things even 1-1. Things would remain deadlocked for the next 13 minutes until RSU was called for a foul in the box to force a penalty kick for DBU. Unfortunately, the kick was good and gave the Patriots a 2-1 lead.
Â
The Hillcats will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 3 as they wrap up the road trip in Tyler, Texas and face off against UT Tyler. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
