CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's soccer (2-1) came up just short against No. 22 Midwestern State (3-0) in a 2-0 decision on Thursday.
Â
The Hillcats were on their heels immediately out of the kickoff as MSU pushed the offensive pressure from the start. The Mustangs fired in a shot in from 10 yards out in the second minute to take an early 1-0 lead. Later in the 29th minute, during an offensive possession that saw the ball rattle around in a scrum at the mouth of the goal, MSU headed a ball into the net just out of the keepers reach to take a 2-0 lead. In the half, the Hillcats struggled to get any good chances get on the board as they only had two shots on goal out of their eight total shots in the period.
Â
The second half was much more defense heavy than the opening 45 minutes. Both teams had several opportunities to score, but neither could get anything to fall with both keepers holding their own. The Hillcats outshot the Mustangs 10-6 with six shots on goal in the period.
