SEARCY, Ark. – Rogers State men's soccer (3-2-5, 1-0-3 GAC/MIAA) took down Harding (1-8-1, 1-3-1 GAC/MIAA) in a 1-0 decision on the road for their first conference win of the season.
Marcos Vasallo got on the score sheet with his first goal of the season. Reigning GAC/MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week Declan Viljoen was stellar in goal as he registered his second shutout of the year with five saves.
The opening 45 minutes of the match were an even defensive heavy period. Both teams managed to get off six shots, with Harding taking a slight edge with two shots on goal compared to just one by RSU.
Coming out of the half, the Hillcats wasted no time breaking the scoreless tie. Just 18 seconds into the period, Marcos Vasallo blasted a one-touch shot from inside the 18-yard box off a cross from Ruben Carassco to put RSU up 1-0. From there, the Hillcats managed to hold HU at bay for the remainder of the game with the Bison outshooting RSU 9-8 in the period.
The Hillcats will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 1 as they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. to take on Ouachita Baptist. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
