Hillcats Fall To Central Oklahoma

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (4-11, 2-7 MIAA) fell 83-70 to Central Oklahoma (6-8, 3-7 MIAA) on Saturday.
 
Five Hillcats finished in double figures in the game. Chloe Martin led the way with a new career-high of 21 points to go with a rebound and a steal. Bailey Kliewer put up 12 points with three rebounds and an assist. Trinity Jackson earned her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds as well as three blocks, two assists and a steal. Kaya Goldsby added 10 points with eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Sydney Ellis contributed 10 points with a rebound.
 
The Hillcats stumbled out of the gate as the Bronchos raced out to an 8-2 lead to open the game. After an 8-1 run midway through the period they found themselves up 16-8. RSU tried to battle back, but UCO carried a 21-13 advantage into the second quarter.
 
The Bronchos continued to control the game at the start of the final 10 minutes of the half as they took their first double digit lead of the game at 26-16. The Hillcats kept grinding and managed to outscore UCO 16-13 in the period. They only trailed 34-29 going into the break.
 
RSU started the second half on fire as four quick points tied the game at 34-34. However, the Bronchos answered with five quick points of their own to go back up 39-34. From there, the team battled back and forth over the next few minutes. UCO began to pull away again with a 9-0 run to go up 55-43 with just over three minutes left in the quarter. They eventually took a 63-52 lead into the final 10 minutes.
 
After a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter, the Bronchos took their largest lead of the game at 69-52. The Hillcats didn't stop fighting and were able to cut the deficit down to 79-70 with 2:09 left, but that would be as close as they would get. UCO closed out the game with four made free throws to claim the 83-70 win.
 
RSU will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 12 as they travel to Jefferson City, Mo. for a meeting with Lincoln. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
