KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rogers State women's basketball was picked 13th in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll and 14th in the Preseason Media Poll, the league announced on Tuesday.
Beginning a new era of RSU women's basketball under new head coach
Heather Davis, the Hillcats were tabbed to finish in 13th place with 25 points in the coaches poll and 14th place in the media poll with 31 points.
Central Missouri was tabbed as the favorite to win the league in the coaches poll with 11 first place votes and 167 points. Missouri Western (three first place votes, 153 points), Pittsburg State (147 points), Fort Hays State (131 points) and Missouri Southern (116 points) closed out the top five. Nebraska Kearney (111 points), Northwest Missouri (100 points), Washburn (76 points), Central Oklahoma (72 points) and Emporia State (72 points) rounded out the top 10. Northeastern State (45 points), Lincoln (41 points), Rogers State (25 points) and Newman (18 points) were also featured in the poll.
In the media poll, the Jennies were also selected as the top team in the league with 14 first place votes and 283 points. Missouri Western (three first place votes, 266 points), Pittsburg State (one first place vote, 245 points), Fort Hays State (219 points) and Nebraska Kearney (218 points) closed out the top five. Northwest Missouri (191 points), Missouri Southern (186 points), Emporia State (149 points), Central Oklahoma (132 points) and Washburn (114 points) rounded out the top 10. Newman (71 points), Lincoln (62 points), Northeastern State (53 points) and RSU were also featured in the poll.
The Hillcats will open the season at home hosting the Holiday Inn Express Classic on Friday, Nov. 10 with a matchup against MSU Moorhead. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. inside the Claremore Expo Center.
