SEARCY, Ark. – Rogers State men's soccer (8-5-2, 5-4 GAC/MIAA) fell 3-1 to Harding on the road on Thursday.
Â
Trindon Turner earned his fourth goal of the season with RSU's lone goal of the day.
Declan Viljoen (7-5) made five saves while allowing three goals.
Â
Both teams tried to get their offensive attacks going early as the two sides tested each keeper within the first 20 minutes of the match. The Hillcats edged out the Bison with 10 shots to nine in the period, with Harding taking four shots on target to RSU's three. However, it was the Hillcats that broke the ice in the 28th minute as Turner headed in a goal off a
Luke Morgan corner kick. Less than two minutes later though, the Bison equalized on a through ball up the right side to level things at 1-1 in the 30th minute, which is where they stayed headed into the break.
Â
The second half saw much more defensive play from both sides for most of the period. RSU again out shot Harding 13-7, with six shots on goal to four. Unfortunately, the Bison took more advantage of their opportunities as they scored the go ahead goal in the 86th minute off a cross from the left in the 86th minute. They put the game out of reach less than a minute later with a another shot that found the back of the net to seal the 3-1 game.
Â
The Hillcats will need a short memory as they return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 with a trip to Arkadelphia, Ark. to face off against Ouachita Baptist in the regular season road finale. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
